Feng Shui meaning
Feng Shui is the Chinese expertise which involves special arrangements in the path to bring in positive energy with consideration of improving health, success or happiness in life.
Feng shui in the office space will invite positive energy, promote creativity and boost productivity.
The basics of feng shui are the same in the office setting. Here are some things to get one started on setting up their workspace.
Feng shui tips for the office focus heavily on placement and balance to control the flow of energy in the room.
Seated position matters
Positioning is important. Emphasis on the way the person sits plays an important role in the flow of energy in a space. The person should always be seated in the alternate corner that has the greatest distance from the entrance of the room.
If the office space has the vantage point of a tall structure, the person’s desk should be carefully placed where the mountain serves as the backdrop.
No person should ever sit directly in front of the entrance. The person should always have their back toward a corner or wall. The person should avoid facing the wall at all costs, even if it means the strategic placement of art to prevent the wall from being seen.
Placement of items
Anything with water such as a fountain or aquarium should be placed in certain areas of an office. If there is going to be an aquarium present, it should always be placed in the North, Southeast or East portion of office.
The computer shouldn’t be placed in the South or East portions of a room. A person should never be seated at an angle where they could easily see closets, elevators, escalators or stairs.
Any safe in the office space should be placed in the Northwest of West corners.
Materials, textures and colours
Glass and metals are encouraged for use in the office; aquariums can be made of either substance. If there will be a safe in the office, it should be made of a sturdy metal. A mixture of light and dark colours can be used.
The colour scheme should be balanced and contain the proper mix of light and dark hues. If multiple textures are going to be used, they should also be used in a balanced manner as well.
What to avoid in an office space
The office should as little clutter in the working space as possible. Mirrors should be avoided in the office décor as they are believed to create the wrong energy for a space.
Any cords should be properly concealed at all times. Clutter is believed to reduce productivity and interfere with the creative process.
The most important aspects of feng shui for office design are placement and balance in design elements. To promote the right energy and create the most rewarding work environment, feng shui principles should be observed whenever possible.
